OP Ranks

Having reviewed the current system for deciding when those new to the server should be made an OP (Rank 1), a simpler system will now be used.

In order to try to be fair to all, those that are new to the server will have to receive a vote from three other existing members of the Essex Home Ed Minecraft Server. This should, happily, be easy to attain, as those on the server are a friendly lot :)

Votes can be placed on the notice board, outside the locker and post room, or put into the grey Suggestion Chute in the same building.

If you would like to speed he process up, you are more than welcome to ask someone to put a sign up, on the notice board, reminding others that you'd like them to request that you be made an OP.

You could also start a book (with a quill and book), if you get three others to sign it, and post the book into the suggestion chute or give it to DJJANDANAIAH ingame.

Further information about OP Ranks on EHE Minecraft Server, can be found here. If you have any views, comments or suggestions you would like to share, then please let us know ingame or via email.

Essex Home Ed Minecraft Server to Remain on All Weekend!

The EHE Minecraft Server will be online all weekend, as we will be away from the server for a few days.

Although we shall endeavour to make it online, to ensure all is well, we trust very one will continue to treat each other with respect and consideration whilst we are away.

In the meantime, if you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please feel free to email us. Emails will be checked and responded to as soon as possible.

Upholding The Essex Home Ed Minecraft Server Considerations

It came to light today that some users of the server would like to have a way of tackling issues which arise online, using a court type system, where alleged offenders can be charged and defended etc...

We entirely understand the desire to ensure that others show the same respect that they are offered on the server and are interested on hearing more of your views on this.

The ideas that come in can the be discussed further and decided upon at a later date, possibly at the monthly meetings. Those that cannot attend can email their views to us at feedback@eheminecraft.co.uk, or leave a comment below.

In the meantime, whilst there was quite a lot of talk online about the possibility of a trial, I have always believed that it is unfair to punish people in hindsight, using a system that was not in place at the time the incident took place.

Thus, until a constitution for EHE Minecraft Server can be discussed and drawn up, which will clarify the procedures we will use when there are lapses in the behaviour of some online, it would not be fair to hold a trial.

Even if it is decided that trials should be possible, as the practice could be interesting if people are willing, there would still have to be some limitations on who they should apply to. For example, in the British Court system, children are dealt with differently than adults.

It may be more considerate to only use the trial systems with those that are over a certain age (other complaints can be reported to and dealt with by Gaynor, under advice) and are willing to use a trial system.

An alternative method for dealing with issues could be found for those that are not willing to take part in a trial system perhaps. We would like everyone to feel safe, respected and protected when on the server, even if someone feels that they may have done something wrong.

Thank you for your understanding and consideration.

Starting Zone Coordinates

The coordinates for the starting zone, in case any of you explorers get too far away, are approximately X-150, Y115 and Z150 (if teleporting, this can be written as: /tp-150 115 150).

To see your current coordinates, press the f3 button on your keyboard. The coordinates will be the numbers from the X, Y and Z rows.

I suggest double jumping, to fly, before teleporting, if that is your mode of travel ;)

Apologies to those of you that may have been trying to log in this afternoon. Technical issues resulted in the server being offline for a while but it is now all up and operational again.

OP's and EHE Minecraft Server: What, Who, How and Why?

What?

OP refers to players classed as being Operators. OP's are able to type/use extra commands whilst on the server. The variety of commands they can use depends on their rank, the ranks given to members of Essex Home Ed Minecraft Server as shown below:
No OP Rank: Can not build, or use items placed in, the Starter Zone but can build in any area beyond the starter zone borders (marked by a border of glowstone around the starting area).
Rank 1: Can build in any area of the server, including the protected starting area (space permitting). Members with OP Rank 1 can also take ownership of a chest in the locker room, where mail and items can be left for you when you are offline.
Rank 2: Can use additional commands such as /tp, /gamemode, /give and can edit command blocks

Who?

On the EHE Minecraft Server, new arrivals do not have any OP privileges for an initial probationary period, which is generally around a week for those that are willing to show consideration to all others on the server.*

Players are made OP's when they have demonstrated that they are willing to abide by the three considerations of EHE Minecraft Server. These are:
  • No taking or breaking things made/created by someone else
  • No bad language please
  • Try to treat others as kindly as you would like them to treat you.

How?

Once you have been around for a while and have shown that you are happy to abide by the three considerations we try to show each other on the server, you will be granted OP Level 1.*

It is at the discretion of the Server Hosts how long this probationary period will last for but if you are happy to be considerate to others, it will not be long.*

Players who have consistently shown themselves to be helpful, kind and considerate to other players can be further upgraded to level 2. This will be at the discretion of the server hosts.

Please note, we are happy to grant OP level 2 to other players temporarily, as needed (for example, if they wish to edit command blocks). Just email us at feedback@eheminecraft.co.uk, alternatively you can also ask Djjandanaiah and Anaiah26, for help whilst on the server.

OP's are expected to abide by the same 3 considerations as all other members of the server. Those who refuse to do so may have their OP rank reduced.

Why?

Sadly, it is mainly to ensure peoples things are as safe as they can be, by ensuring that only those that are happy to show consideration to others are able to work with the starting area.

So much time and effort has been put into the creations there, we feel it would be neglectful of us not to offer them some sort of protection.

We hope you understand and thank you for your patience.

* As Of 30th April 2014, the system for deciding when members will be made OP's has been changed, as shown here. OP Rank 1 is now granted after new members receive three votes, from existng members. This should be both quick and easy to attain for those that have shown themselves to be considerate to others on the server.

Screenshot Request For The Gallery

Calling all Creators....

We would like to put some pictures of your creations online, but only if you would like us too.

You can take screenshots of your creations by pressing the f2 button on your keyboard. If you would like a clear picture, with no inventory bar, press f1 before pressin f2. You can email your screenshots to me at feedback@eheminecraft.co.uk, along with whatever information you would like to be included (eg your username/name/age etc)

If you would like me to take pictures of the things you have made, to put on the eheminecraft.co.uk website's forthcoming gallery, you can also add your username as a comment here or email your username to me at feedback@eheminecraft.co.uk.

If there is a particular item you would like to be photographed, it would help if you would send me the coordinates (which can be found by pressing f3on your keyboard), or put a sign up near the item.

Please also tell us whether you want us to include your username and/or age with your picture.

Happy building people!

No More Server Updates until 1.8

To simplify things for people, I shall not be updating the server again until the next major update 1.8. This means that you will not have to keep updating your minecraft version to log onto the server.

If your minecraft version updates automatically, we can tell you how to use the version of minecraft the server will be on, if we have not updated too. Just ask for information in game or you can email us at feedback@eheminecraft.co.uk

One of the changes I am looking forward to in 1.8 will add the option for you to change your usernames! What changes are you looking forward too?

Increased Protected Zone

For those new to Minecraft, it can be all too easy to accidentally break something when trying to look at or use it (I have done it myself a few too many times to admit to without blushing!).

As newcomers are set to appear near where many of the first creations were built, this could understandably lead to accidents. Thus, we have increased the protected zone around the starting area, so it cannot be broken by everyone.

Unfortunately, this also restricts who is able to build in this area. However, should you wish to build, or continue building in the protected area, you can just let us know when and the restrictions will be temporarily lifted, to allow you to do so.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause but at least this way, your creations can be completed and will be protected if they are in the starting zone.

Should you wish the settings to be changed you can email us at feedback@eheminecraft.co.uk or tell one of the following users when they are online:

DJJANDANAIAH: Me (Gaynor)
Caddy16: Cadell
Anaiah26 : Anaiah
DJJ31: DJJ

Essex Home Ed Minecraft Server's First Weekaversary!

Well, the server has been up for a week now and it has been amazing to see just how much has sprouted up in that time. You (or your children) have made some truly amazing creations already.

Some entries for the "Make a Meeting Room" competition have already been started (or made!), we are looking forward to seeing more of them before the winners are chosen at the monthly meetings.

The monthly meetings will be held in Elmstead Market, on the 2nd Friday of the month (for those under 11) and the 4th Friday of the month (for those over 11). The times are 12.00-2.30pm. You can email us at feedback@eheminecraft.co.uk for more information.

Finally, we would like to say a huge thank you to you all for making the start of Essex Home Ed Minecraft Server so positive. My children have enjoyed it immensely so far and it has been lovely to have such positive feedback from the members and parents alike. Long may it last :-)

Thank you!

Server Updated to 1.7.9 and Back Online

The Server is now online again and fully operational.

If you have any continuing issues getting online, please ensure that you have sent us your username to be added to the list of permitted players. Also, ensure that the server address details you have entered into the Minecraft multiplayer settings has been updated to:

Server Name: Essex Home Ed Minecraft Server
Server Address: essexheminecraft.co.uk Alternatively, you can also use eheminecraft.co.uk

Finally, you can let us know if you have any issues connecting by emailing us at feedback@eheminecraft.co.uk

Server Offline to Update to 1.7.9

Sorry if you have had trouble logging on today guys, I have just seen that there is another update!

This is now being seen to and we hope to be back online later this afternoon.

We will update the website when this has been resolved.

Server Times: 10am to 10pm Each Day

Following analysis of the use of the Essex Home Ed Minecraft Server, it seems that it only needs to be available until around 10pm, as most users have generally logged off by then.

Hence, for the foreseeable future: The server will now be online from 10am to 10pm. However, when players are already online at 10pm, the server will not be turned off until after the last person has logged off for the night (we'd hate to interrupt that artistic flow!)

Should you wish us to reconsider the times that the server is available, please let us know at feedback@eheminecraft.co.uk

Fowl Play (if you'll forgive the pun!)

There have been a couple outpourings of wild animals on the server today, first pigs, then a flood of fowl! Some of which can be seen in the attached picture.

Sadly, multitudes of animals being spawned slows the sever down for others and can make it lag. Thus, it came down to a them or us scenario and the chickens had to be sent packing. Apologies to chicken lovers (we are quite fond of them too) but we felt we owed it to the members of Essex HE Minecraft server, to ensure that they were able to play.

We would ask that, in the future, no further traps flooding the world with animals be set, as it means that others can't play well and it can take a lot of time to put right. Even if the clearing up project does all become part of the game, it makes it difficult for people to leave your creations alone, if you do things that have to be undone.
To ensure that everyone can enjoy their time on the EHE Minecraft Server, please ensure that all of those visiting show the following considerations to others:
  • Do not take or break anything made/created by anyone else (unless given their express permission to do so. If you accidentally damage something, you can try to repair it to how it was or tell whoever made it).
  •  No bad language please, there may be young ones online.
  • Try to treat others as you would like them to treat you.

Server Back Online and Ready for New Recruits!

Good news, thanks to the fantastic research tool we have today (aka the internet) and some helpful software, we are now able to continue adding new members to the server.

The server is now up and running again and ready for more of the marvellous creations you have all been making.

Server Offline for maintainance

Essex Home Ed Minecraft Server will be offline for maintenance from 11pm tonight.

We will be back online by 3am this morning.

Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Update 1.7.8 Issues Adding to Whitelist (allowed players)

Apologies to those waiting to be added to the whitelist. It seems that since the last update yesterday, there have been some issues, as shown here.

I am working on this but it may be that it is not fixed until the next update, given that there were 3 updates in 2 days, it probably wont be too long in the coming).

Really sorry to those of you wanting to get a start on your meeting rooms for the competition. We will try to resolve this as quickly as possible and update on here when we have done so.

The Start of a New Civilisation...

For those new to the Essex Home Ed Minecraft Server, the starting area does not allow everyone to build on it but you are free to build anywhere else, as long as you don't destroy or interfere with something that someone else is making.

Let me know if there are any problems and also could you let me know if you are happy for pictures of your creations to be put on the website (with or without your username, depending on which you'd prefer).

Alternatively, if you take a picture of yourself or your creations on minecraft and would like them to be on this website, you can email them to me at feedback@minecraft.co.uk

Some great creations have already sprouted up, you guys are truly inspirational!

Build a Meeting Room Competition

To celebrate the launch of the Essex Home Ed Minecraft Server, we are having a competition where we would like you to build a building people can meet up in, should they wish to do so.

Minecraft T-Shirts will be given as prizes for the buildings chosen to be the meeting room by their age group (one for 11's and under and one for over 11's).

The winners of the T-Shirts will be chosen by their peers at the first meet ups, to be held in May. We will put pictures of the creations here, online, along with the winning entries.

When you have finished your building, email the coordinates of your building to us, along with your username and age. Please check with your parents that they are happy for you to take part.

Good luck :-)

Additional Information:

Closing dates for entries is 8th May 2014*
Please email the coordinates** of your entry, along with your username, to feedback@eheminecraft.co.uk. Alternatively, you can put the username and coordinates in the comments section below or post a book with the relevant information into the hopper in the postal office/locker room.

Please put a sign(s) outside your entry, with your username and the name of the building (if it has one)
Entries will be inspected after the server has closed on Thursday 8th May*. After this time, please do not alter the building further until after the winning entry has been chosen.
The winning entries will be voted on by other eheminecraft members, at the May Monthly meetings***

*Deadline is now extended to 22nd May 2014, as explained here

Server back online

Good news, the server has now been updated to 1.7.8 and is now back online and functional.

Server offline to update to 1.7.8

The server is currently offline to update to 1.7.8. Back soon!

Thank you for bearing with us :-)

After quite a few bumps, unexpected resets and updates, I think the Essex Home Ed Minecraft server is finally stable and more or less sorted!

Thank you all for bearing with us through these initial teething stages but I wanted everyone to have the opportunity to access the server over the Easter holidays, should they wish to do so.

The server may occasionally go offline, if the IP address has to update for example, however, this is now all done automatically and checked every 5 minutes, so any issues should be resolved very quickly.

There may also be updates from minecraft themselves, we will try to keep up with these as quickly as possible. If anyone finds it difficult to connect for any longer than a few minutes, feel free to send us an email in case we have missed something.

We look forward to seeing those of you that can make it to the Minecraft meet ups in May, if not before, and seeing those that can't online :-)

Server is back online!

The Minecraft 1.7.7 Server update is now completed and everything is back online.

Server offline to update to 1.7.7

It sees as though there has been another update from Minecraft HQ (that is 2 updates in 24 hours!)

Hoping to be back online by the morning.

New Website Address

For the convenience of all, this site can now be accessed from, the following address: eheminecraft.co.uk

It can still be accessed via the previous address too, so you can use either, the new one is just shorter.

Please feel free to email suggestions to us about what you would like to see on this website (eg guides/tutorials on certain topics etc).

We can be contacted at feedback@eheminecraft.co.uk or essexheminecraft@gmail.com

How to Access the Essex Home Ed Minecraft Server

To get a copy of minecraft onto your PC, you can download it here: https://minecraft.net/download

You have to pay just under £18 for a full account but my kiddies feel that's great value and, to be fair, they do get a lot of hours out of it.

To set it up, you can unzip the downloaded file using winrar (or an equivalent unzipping software) from here: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm (actually, on second thoughts, I don't think you do need to unzip minecraft, I'm thinking of the mods! I will still leave this part in though as it's a useful bit of info if you do need unzipping software)

If you have done this, or already have a minecraft PC account, then send me your username, so you can be added to the whitelist (players that are allowed to join the server). Email me via the Home Ed group please, just search your Home Ed egroup's emails for minecraft and I should pop up.

Once running, log into minecraft with the account you've purchased.
Select Multiplayer from the screen that loads.
Select Add Server
Type in the following details into the boxes that open:
Server Name: Essex Home Ed Minecraft Server
              Server Address: eheminecraft.zapto.org
When you select Done the Multiplayer screen should ping and show the server with green bars besides the number of players.

If this is all there, select Join Sever and play away!

If there are any problems however, feel free to email us and we will do what we can to help.

Server updated and back online

Hi All,

The server is now updated and online. Same login details as before (essexheminecraft.zapto.org)

All the best :-)

Server Offline to update to Minecraft 1.7.6

As some of you may have noticed, the server is not accessible at the moment. This is because Minecraft has updated to 1.76, instead of 1.7.5. I will therefore be taking the server offline until later today (hopefully by 12pm).

I will repost on here when it is all sorted. The server addresses should be the same.

If you subscribe to this site, you will get updates emailed to you, so you wont need to check here yourself.

Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Whoopee! No more changing Server Address... hopefully...

In the interest of continuity and generally less faffing, there is a static address you can use to access the Essex Home Ed Minecraft server, which should eliminate the need for changing the settings every time our router resets.

The new details for the server are:

Server Name: Essex Home Ed Minecraft Server
Server Address: essexheminecraft.zapto.org

Apologies for not thinking of sharing this sooner but I hadn't gotten around to checking whether it worked when I originally set it up and then forgot I had even done it!

Happy Minecrafting :-)
